It’s a green future for GM after it’s back on its own feet

GM’s future will move in the green direction when it emerges from bankruptcy. The humbled automaker may even repaint its famous blue logo green, literally.
The color change is contemplated as GM’s first attempt to show that it intends to join the green bandwagon and position itself as an automaker offering fuel-efficient vehicles. It’s also supposed to show that the out-of-bankruptcy GM will be lean and green.
The much-touted GM Volt electric car will be part of the green vehicle mix. But with a nearly $50,000 price tag, it’s hardly for the mass market. So GM’s planning to introduce a new subcompact car to be made in Michigan that will be much more fuel efficient than it’s current offerings. Many think this will be the four-seat Chevrolet Spark that’s currently sold in India.
But to get to this lean and green stage, GM still plans to eliminate another 4,000 white collar jobs and 450 executives, including plant managers and engineers.
The AP story is here.

Okay, first off, I have been a GM/Chevy fan for as long as I can remember. Since all this bailing out of big banks and automakers, I’ve been singing a new tune. It actually started with the death of the EV.
Our relationship has gone downhill since. Now, here comes this Volt which I am not impressed with. How can an electric car cost more than a fuel burner? There are less moving parts and 40 miles on a charge? That’s absurd!
I can build one in my garage for a few grand and get 200 miles on a charge. What gives? Now the tune you’ll be hearing me sing, is “Have you driven a Ford, lately”.
