Less packaging: less cost, fewer greenhouse gas emissions

How you wrap your product makes a big difference when it comes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and cutting costs at the same time.
That magic green combination’s behind new packaging redesigns by chordless phone giant, Vtech Communications. The Beaverton, OR, company has cut packaging by 41% for some of its phone destined for sale in retailers like Sam’s Club and Costco. Vtech has also reduced the amount of PET plastic used for its club packaged deals by 99%.
In other green moves that cut costs, Vtech now uses water-based coatings instead of ultraviolet coatings. This pollution prevention change not only reduces chemical usage, but also streamlines its production process and eliminates third-party packaging support, temporary packaging costs and duplicate processes.
Vtech’s line of green phones that qualify for EPA’s Energy Star program is here.
