While many hold onto the view that there’s no need to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the nation’s largest brewer is plowing ahead with its green agenda.
Anheuser-Busch has reduced its GHG emissions 5% a year ahead of schedule.
The company joined EPA’s Climate Leaders program in 2007 and pledged to cut GHGs by 2010. The company has already reached this goal. The company is pushing ahead to do even more. It now says it will reduce GHG emissions from all U.S. operations 15% below 2008 levels by 2013.
Anheuser Busch just won kudos from EPA chief Lisa Jackson for the reductions.
To cut GHG releases, Anheuser-Bush is reducing use of electricity produced by coal-fired power plants and instead is purchasing electricity produced by alternative sources. For example, it’s using landfill gas, bio-energy recovery systems and solar energy to power its various breweries.
The company continues to make significant reductions in the use of water. Anheuser-Busch has reduced water use by nearly 37% since 2000.
