Yes, mother, my new underwear is green

Who says green clothing has to be drab, olive green and Army-like?

The newest green clothing company is making a splash right now with a line of green underwear, for men and women. And, they’re clearly making being green and wearing underwear fun.

The company is California-based Pact Apparel. Its key greeniness is that it relies on certified organic cotton. The underwear is 95% organic cotton and 5% spandex. So, no pesticides, herbicides and insecticides are used to grow the raw material.

Pact has also adopted social responsibility as part of its environmentally friendly mission. They partner their underwear lines with different nonprofits, which get 10% of sales for undies that range from $22 to $28.

To prove its organic claims, Pact’s cotton is certified according to organic standards created by various groups, including the Global Organic Textile Standard, Organic Exchange and the Fair Labor Association. The latter group will also help monitor Pact’s manufacturing, which will be done by Egedeniz Textile in Turkey.

The company plans to market directly to consumers instead of retailing through brick and mortar stores. All sales will be run through its Website, www.wearPact.com.

The company’s even toying with the idea of recycling its underwear, from its customers, by turning used underwear into rags. Yikes!

The full story about Pact’s creation can be gleaned at the company’s blog (click here). The site also reveals the sophisticated marketing campaign (on-location photo shoots and videos) that Pact has created to launch its green product line.

Some other green undie marketers include PatagoniaThe Organic Company and the UK’s Bedrock Betty Bra.
